Carie Tindill
Owner and Head Designer
Growing up the 5th of 6 children in a traditional southern family, Carie Tindill was in the kitchen at a young age. Using recipes that are passed from generation to generation, cooking and baking has always been important and special to her, even if it is just a week night meal. She often jokes, "In my family, once you were big enough to dress yourself, you were big enough to start cooking!"
Carie graduated from Auburn University in 2005 with a Bachelor of Architecture and again in 2006 with a Masters of Integrated Design and Construction. Soon after she began her professional career as an Intern Architect and Assistant Project Manager. As a naturally creative person, design was a good fit for Carie’s personality. However, she felt called to take on new challenges to really satisfy her creative side. Turning to cake one day back in 2009, Carie began experimenting with the tools she used in architecture school to make architectural models and put them to use on cake. She now has a large portfolio of cakes and goodies.
Baking and decorating mixed with architecture and construction may sound like a strange combination but this collective experience combines well and makes for Great Cakes! With imagination, the potential is limitless!
Lee Dow
Administrative Specialist
Lee grew up in Alabama where her family surrounded themselves with good cooking at holidays followed by watching football and the men trying to get to the recliner first for a nap. There were always delicious sweets and shared recipes. Lee likes to cook for family and change up recipes to see how they might come out using favorite ingredients, like at this year’s church Chili Competition where she won first prize.
Lee met Carie and her husband Anthony when they were students at Auburn University and kept in touch through the years. Anthony and Lee joke about being cousins because they share a family name --Tindill and Tindal.
Lee graduated from Judson College with Bachelor Degrees in Art and Interior Design which helped in her understanding of working with design degrees. Lee knew what she wanted when she retired from Auburn University’s College of Architecture Design and Construction after 14 years of employment. She wanted a part time job where her skills of communication, organization and scheduling would be utilized. Lee wanted to travel, especially to see her first granddaughter in Texas. Most of all she wanted to be challenged to learn new things but in a fun and creative atmosphere – that’s Cakeitecture Bakery.
Kelly Jowers
Bakery Creative Artist
Kelley is from all over, being born & adopted in Pennsylvania and having also lived in Idaho and Nebraska. However both her parents went to Auburn and she was raised to be a Tiger; dressing in AU cheerleading outfits since she was little and visiting the loveliest village on the plains since she was in 10. She followed in her parents footsteps by moving to Alabama to attend Auburn in 2009.
Kelley is our Art Major of the Cakeitecture crew. She graduated from Auburn in 2013 with a Studio Arts degree and then went on to earn a Masters degree in Art Education from Columbus State University in 2017. After a year of teaching in Georgia, she and her husband moved back “home” to Opelika to be closer to her parents.
